Living the slow life… one day at a time

Links on the main page

with 2 comments

Just a quick note about the hyperlinks on the main page at People have pointed out that they’re difficult to see because they’re the same color as the surrounding text. My mistake! This is the default for the program I used to design the site (iWeb) but I never noticed it because I always visited the sites before I set up the link, so when I viewed the Slow Food Columbus site, the links looked “visited” (grey) to me. The idea behind making the links the same color was to keep everything readable and elegant, but the designers may have gone too far.

I’m traveling at the moment, but I’ll try to find a way to strike a balance between readability and usefulness soon. For the moment, please be aware that if you see someone or something mentioned in the text (like Slow Food USA) it’s probably linked to an external site. Run your mouse over it, and if it changes color, there’s a link there.

Thanks, and sorry for the confusion!

Edit: I’ve now changed them all to dark brown—still subtle, but at least visible—and sent them off to Jeff. If everything looks ok to him, the revised website should be up soon.

  1. does not work. There’s nothing there. If the site is not ready, put a single webpage explaining that it’s coming soon, or just link to this site.

  2. Hi Jon. has been up for over a week now. I was looking at it last night, and I just looked again now, and the site was there both times. We might be having some issues with our hosting service, though (??). If you’re still having trouble accessing it, could you leave details — when you tried, how you tried, how many times, and what error message you got, if any? That’ll help us diagnose any issues. Thanks!
