Meet the Winemaker Dinner: Rich Parducci at Rosendales

On August 13, Slow Food Columbus was happy to welcome McNab Ridge winemaker Rich Parducci and his wife Melinda to town with a wine dinner at Rosendales. Rich’s family has been in the winemaking business in California for four generations; his grandfather, John, is a legendary figure in the industry, and Rich himself is considered to be one of the more talented winemakers of his generation.

Bocuse d’Or finalist Chef Rosendale and Sommelier Chris Dillman collaborated to produce an outstanding menu consisting of six wines matched with five courses. The wines ran the gamut from the unusual and award-winning McNab Ridge French Colombard to the Puerto, a delicious Port-style dessert wine.

Before each course, Rich talked briefly about the wines that we tasted and told us about how they were grown, their requirements, and their characteristics. Sometimes we learned more about the history of the wines than we ever thought we would—for example, that John’s grandmother was the one who insisted that his grandfather make the Colombard! (After trying it, we heartily agreed with Grandma.)
