Slow Food Columbus Blog

Living the slow life… one day at a time

Website Update

with 3 comments

After an arduous process of transferring domain registrations, and after having Colleen ask me more than a few times whether we couldn’t perhaps get some new photos up on the homepage, I have, at long last, updated the main Slow Food Columbus website. Let the rejoicing begin!

I should note, in my own defense, that there are a few reasons for my hesitation. I’ve known for some time that our convivium’s remarkable level of activity had produced an Events page that was totally unmanageable, for example, and that adding events for 2009 was going to be tricky. I also knew that the blog wasn’t particularly well integrated with the rest of the website, and I wanted to fix that problem as well.

So starting today, the events page has been dramatically shortened, with a link at the bottom to a 2008 events archive for those who want to look up the details of a past event. And I’ve worked out a way, with a new, cleaner look for the blog, to integrate it into the site while allowing it to maintain a standalone identity — not the easiest balance to strike (and I fully expect to hear from some of you, especially those with older browsers, that something’s gone horribly wrong).

There have also been suggestions for an additional page; we’ve discussed adding a resource page, with links to relevant organizations, groups, and people, or possibly a forum where members could engage in online discussion (though that would probably be outside of the website structure, at least for now). As always, we welcome your thoughts.

  2. Bear–it looks great. Nice to see the blog more consistent visually with the rest of the site. And the new pics on the home page too–nice work! I know it’s no easy task…

  3. Thanks to both of you. The sleight-of-hand involved in wedging an active WordPress blog into an iWeb template was such that I don’t expect everything to run perfectly smoothly in the long run, but I can at least try to minimize the flakiness…. :-S
