A Day at the Farm: Mother’s Day Potluck Re-Cap

with 2 comments

The ubiquitous snail reminding guests to slow down and enjoy the ricotta.

Slow Food Columbus members were invited out to Pleasantview Farm in Circleville by Perry Clutts, the farm’s owner,  to spend Mother’s Day.  And a wonderful crowd turned up to share a potluck meal featuring grass-fed beef meatloaf sandwiches, tender asparagus and farm-made ricotta with honey from the farm’s hives.

Pleasantview’s farm house has a big, welcoming porch that encouraged lingering as guests arrived.  A luscious spread of ricotta, honey and walnuts in a nook on the porch, as well as house made beer ensured the grown ups stayed close.   A calf barn just around the corner from the house provided enormous entertainment for everyone, especially all the kids.  After the group had gathered, everyone set off on a country mile walk to the milking parlor to watch the certified organic dairy cows jostle to be milked.

Following the tour, the group headed back to the farmhouse to fill plates with sandwiches and sides. and rest on the porch swing, watch the kids roll down the hill and the farm dog Jip keep them in a group.  A more restful afternoon couldn’t be had.

Farmer Clutts and his beautiful cows were generous hosts and ambassadors of the Slow Food philosophies of good, clean and fair as well as the right to pleasure.  We extend our many thanks to him, as well as Lynne Genter, Slow Food Board member and Terra Madre delegate, who helped organize this wonderful afternoon.
